Rotary International runs  what it believes is the premiere foreign exchange program in the entire world. Its purpose is to help promote international goodwill . Each year, approximately 8,000 secondary school students ages 15-19 participate in exchanges in roughly 150 countries and geographical areas across the globe.

Individual Rotary Clubs  elect to participate in the program either providing outbound students, or hosting inbound students and in some cases, both.  The carefully selected and highly screened host families provide room and board for the exchange students. A club supporting an inbound student pays their student a small stipend. Each participating student attends a local school. In our District, hosted students participate in a wide range of supervised and planned activities from raft trips, ski trip to attending networking events in the district to meet with and learn from their peers.

Participating students must abide by strict rules and have their families assume responsibility for the following items:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Health and accident insurance
  • Travel documents
  • Clothing and other necessities
  • Spending money
  • Emergency funds for unpredicted expenses
  • Ancillary travel and tours
